About MORR

Our Story

Shannon initially founded MORR Interpreting to conduct and manage her personal direct contract interpreting work. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic shifted the landscape of interpreting from largely on-site to nearly 100% remote and the civil rights protests skyrocketed the demand for Black interpreters. Simultaneously, many local referral agencies began altering their business practices to include pay cuts. The idea of a reduction in pay during a time in which many Black interpreters were being called to meet this influx of sensitive and traumatic work did not sit well with Shannon and led her to expand MORR’s scope of work with the mission to advocate fair pay for fair work for herself and her Black colleagues.

MORR Interpreting, LLC is now a small interpreting agency registered in Baltimore, MD that operates locally and virtually nationwide with a small group of mostly Black interpreters and several Latino and Asian interpreters.

Our Approach

MORR Interpreting centers transparency to promote a trusting environment where inclusivity and equity may thrive. In practice, this looks like speaking up when misunderstandings occur, making sure clients are kept in the loop at every stage of booking, and recognizing the voices (and hands) of all involved while remaining cognizant and respectful of the conversation’s natural flow. It’s important to us that our clients not only know what we’re doing, but also have an understanding as to why we’re doing it so the provision of services makes sense to them every step of the way. This approach will leave you confident that you can masterfully use your first language to engage with your deaf clients, employees, and stakeholders in their first language.

MORR has partnered with over 85 non-profit and for-profit organizations, small businesses, and individuals nationwide to expand their capacity to connect with community stakeholders which has translated to client successes in recruiting, community engagement, and internal relations.
